A fatal accident occurred on Sept. 5 on Interstate 80 eastbound at mile marker 34, state police said, followed closely by another serious accident that did not involve a fatality.

A Hopatcong man was killed on Sept. 5 when he was hit by two cars while walking across Route 80 in Rockaway Township, police said.

Jefferson School Board Member Resigns

Jefferson Township Board of Education member Judy Castiglione resigned her position at Tuesday night’s regular monthly meeting. After tendering her resignation in mid-meeting, Castiglione abruptly left, not waiting until the meeting ended.

Swim Team Parents Try to Oust Board Members

Parents of Lake Forest swim team members have initiated a referendum attempting to remove the swim team’s board, reinstate the two fired coaches and pay the coaches the traditional bonuses they were promised but allegedly did not receive. The referendum accuses the current board of breach of fiduciary duty.

A serious accident occurred on Berkshire Valley Road between Minnisink Road and Route 15 on Thursday morning just after 8 a.m., Jefferson Township police said.

Board of Ed Loses Third Member in a Year

 Two Jefferson Township Board of Education members have resigned in the past six months, Judy Castiglione on Tuesday night and approximately the same amount of time that Joseph Kraemer has been superintendent of schools.

Nick Anzano also resigned last August while Kathaleen Fuchs was still superintendent, citing "overwhelming work commitments."

With the new year to start on Wednesday, transitioning from one school to the next will be on the minds of many parents.

It’s been on the minds of several Board of Education members too, most notably Judy Castiglione, who has asked the board’s education committee to look into her biggest concern, the transition between sixth and seventh grade at Jefferson Township Middle School. She appeared to be upset with the response she got to her concerns at a recent board meeting.

An alleged stalker had a knife when he followed a 47-year-old township woman to the police station when she tried to report him on Sept. 10, Jefferson Township Police said.

Lake Hopatcong Man Airlifted From Motorcycle Crash

A 30-year-old Lake Hopatcong man was airlifted from Lenape Valley High School on Saturday afternoon after the motorcycle he was riding crashed on Sparta Stanhope Road in Hopatcong, police said. They also said the victim, whose name they are not disclosing at this time, was last known to have been in critical condition at Morristown Medical Center, where he was flown.

Fired Lake Forest Coach: I Wasn't Verbally Abusive

, said they were not verbally abusive to swimmers on the team, contrary to what was allegedly said about them in a meeting Friday night of the Lake Forest swim team board and parents of children on the team in 2012.
