Obituary: George H. Conover Jr., 84

George H. Conover Jr., 84, of Lawrence Township, passed away on Thursday, March 21, at home.

Born in Trenton, he was a longtime resident of Lawrence Township.

George was a graduate of Trenton High School Class of 1946, Lafayette College Class of 1949, earning his BA degree in three years, the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Doctor of Jurisprudence, Class of 1951, and New York University Masters of Law, Class of 1952.

Before retiring in 1986, he was a senior partner with Levinson, Conover, Axelrod and Wheaton Law Firm in Edison.

George was a member of the Lawrence Lions Club; and parishioner, eucharistic minister and fourth-degree knight at The Church of St. Ann. Some of his hobbies included running, swimming, playing tennis, reading, politics and sports. George developed an interest in running in his 40s and ran several races including the Atlantic City Marathon.

George also was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he earned the rank of captain.

Most of all, George enjoyed time with his wife, children and grandchildren and spending time at his vacation home in the Virgin Islands.

Father of the late David B. Conover, he is survived by his wife Marie K. Conover; his children George H. III and Kalina Conover, Jeffrey R. and Jeanne Conover and Patricia Conover and Steve Wubker; seven grandchildren Jeff Jr. (Rachel), Timothy (Cassie), Brandon (Scarlett), Garritt Conover, Jeremy, Troy and Jessica Wubker; two great-grandchildren, Liam and Elsie Conover; his sister Joyce Embley; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Salvatore and Judy Noto, and Russell and Kathy Noto; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 26, at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Rd., Lawrence. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum, Hamilton.

Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the daily chapel at the Church of St. Ann.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in George’s memory can be made to the Church of St. Ann 1253 Lawrenceville Rd., Lawrenceville, N.J. 08648.
