Are Kids Wearing Bike Helmets In Your Neighborhood?

Kids are required by NJ law to wear helmets until age 17.

Are Kids Wearing Bike Helmets In Your Neighborhood?
In New Jersey, everyone under the age of 17 must wear a helmet while riding a bike. It's the law, says Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden.

But it is also good practice, since head injuries are the leading cause of death in bicycle related crashes.

On April 9, the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office presented a bicycle safety program Manalapan's Taylor Mills Elementary School to give kids tips bike riding, and donning a properly fitted helmet.

“It’s vital that we begin to educate children at an early age on bicycle safety in an effort to prevent against the devastating effects of an accident,” said Sheriff Golden. “Many injuries caused by riding a bicycle could be averted by simply wearing a helmet.”
