The Long Branch Police have arrested a man suspected in a string of commercial burglaries.

On Sept. 9, Rasul Muhammad, 54, of Long Branch, was arrested and charged with five counts of burglary and theft.

Long Branch Public Safety Director Jason Roebuck said Muhammad was a suspect in a string of “smash and grab” commercial burglaries where a hammer was used to smash windows and varying amounts of money were taken from the establishments.

Roebuck said police used DNA and video evidence from the scenes to link Muhammad to the crimes. Court documents show that one of the establishments he allegedly burglarized was the Cutters Corner Barber Shop at 348 Joline Ave., Long Branch, where he stole $400.

Detective Todd Coleman was the lead investigator in the case.

His bail was set at $150,000 and he was transported to Monmouth County Correctional Institution.
