NJ Fights Addiction: 45 Towns With Heroin And Opiate Abuse
The Governor's Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse has launched a statewide advertising and awareness campaign, "Addiction Does Not Discriminate," targeting the epidemic of heroin and opiate abuse in New Jersey.

The council's website is KnowAddicition.nj.gov, which will provide NewJerseyans information on preventing abuse and recognizing loved ones who are at risk.

The council makes particular note of how many young people are pressured to experiment with drugs during the summer season - particularly in the Shore areas that have seen an increase in opiate addiction deaths.

Outdoor advertising will provide a composite face representing the fact that prescription drug abuse and heroin addiction transcend demographic groups.

We are revisiting our report from earlier in the year that looks at the 45 towns with the most reported cases of heroin and opiate abuse, based on statistics provided by the  Division of Addiction Services in the New Jersey Department of Human Services. The list shows the town and the number of cases reported in 2012.
