Cops: Man Was Drunk, Had Meds in Car

A Stanhope man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after failing a field sobriety test, Lt. Doug Compton said.

Steven Kerrick, 20, of Stanhope was stopped on Naughright Road by officer Michael Hade for a motor vehicle violation, Compton said. When Hade spoke with Kerrick, the officer smelled an alcoholic beverage and requested Kerrick perform field sobriety tests, Compton said.

Kerrick failed the test and was also found to be in possession of prescription drugs, which were not in their proper container, Compton said. Kerrick was then arrested and charged with having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and driving while intoxicated.

Kerrick also received criminal complaints for being in possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of alcohol under the legal age.
