Structure Fire Guts Washington Twp. Home Tuesday Night
Homeowner was out of town, preliminary investigation shows possible mechanical failure as cause.
A house fire ripped through a Washington Township residence Tuesday night, leaving the building uninhabitable, police said.
Police received a call at 7:22 p.m. for a report of a structure fire at 18 South Four Bridges Road, with the caller telling 9-1-1 that flames were visible in the upper windows of the home, Lt. Doug Compton said.
When Officer John Lee arrived on scene it was confirmed to be an active structure fire and a check of the home showed no one was present, Compton said.

The homeowner was out of town at the time and confirmed no one else was inside the residence, Compton said. The fire was fully extinguished by 9:20 p.m.
A preliminary investigation shows no suspicious activity and that the fire’s cause may be related to mechanical failure.

Washington Township’s fire departments were assisted by the Mount Olive and Chester Fire Departments. The Long Valley First Aid Squad and Hackettstown First Aid Squad were also on scene.
