VIDEO: 'Crops Looking Good' for Market-goers

Waverly Place was bustling for first Madison Farmers Market of the year.

The meant regular trips for kettle corn began again for the D'Alessandro family.

Madison residents John and Maryann D'Alessandro and their son, Jack, visited the outdoor market on Waverly Place on Thursday evening.

While they enjoy the snack, they also see the market as an opportunity to stock up on fresh produce from New Jersey farms.

"You can get a week's worth of shopping fresh from the farmers," John D'Alessandro said.

Pam Yousey of Madison picked up tomatoes, blueberries, cherries, kettle corn and pasta on Thursday with her son Henry and daughter Emma.

Yousey said it's important to support New Jersey farmers and local businesses, which is why she stops by the market.

Kai Stefanova, market's chief for in Chester, sold strawberries and asparagus on Thursday.

Peaches and corn are coming soon.

The peaches are coming in fast this year, she said, and they will have "lots of corn" in about two weeks.

The Madison Farmers Market is open from from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursdays on Waverly Place.

The annual event brings together community members, chefs, downtown merchants and 14 farmers and vendors once a week over the summer and into the fall.

Presented by the Downtown Development Commission and , the market runs for 10 weeks on Waverly, until Aug. 16, and then 10 weeks on Green Village Road in front of the , from Aug. 23 to Oct. 25.
