Mahwah nine year old, Hannah Calaman, has been selected as a finalist in the ePals/Smithsonian 2012 Spark!Lab Invent It Challenge. Of the over 300 international entries, only 16 were chosen to be finalists. Finalists represent a range of exemplary inventions from around the world.
Hannah’s SandSleeve is one of the ePals Choice finalists featured. Hannah’s grandfather suffers, like many seniors, from shaking wrists and hands that make it hard to write, read, do daily chores and simply relax. Hannah’s invention, the SandSleeve, uses sand and other materials, in a tight fitting, fingerless glove to comfortably weigh down the wrist so that the shaking is reduced and every day chores are easier. She made several prototypes to refine her concept before submitting her idea to the competition.

Hannah continues to work on improving her invention to make it easier to use, more comfortable, and to make it work better.
