A big fire was reported at the Jersey Shore on Tuesday, with big, thick, black smoke billowing in the air and several boats on fire.

Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty reported the blaze on Twitter around 1:30 p.m., saying that several boats were on fire at AP Marina in Belmar. The blaze has been declared under control by 3 p.m.

"Very thick black smoke," he said. "Fire Department on scene."

The Belmar, Neptune and Spring Lake Heights fire departments were on the scene.

Around 1:30 p.m., Doherty tweeted that the blaze was under control but the fire was still burning. He also warned of a power outage in the area of Fifth Ave. between Main and B Streets. He said to expect the outage for "several hours.

Doherty said at least a dozen boats caught fire, but there were no injuries nor damage to nearby homes.
