Manasquan BOE Expected to Fill Empty Seat Tuesday

Kenneth Clayton likely will be confirmed newest School Board member

Manasquan BOE Expected to Fill Empty Seat Tuesday

The Manasquan School Board on Tuesday is expected to vote on whether to appoint Kenneth Clayton, of East Main Street, to fill the board seat vacated earlier this summer by former President Christine Muly.

Board President Michelle LaSala on Tuesday said that Clayton, who is running for a three-year term in November, was the only person to apply for the vacant seat.

LaSala said she believes Clayton will receive unanimous support from the school board during the confirmation vote.

Tuesday's meeting will be held at the High School media center at 7 p.m.

"I think it's great that he's willing to give the board three years of his time (beginning next year)," LaSala said. "(Tonight's appointment) should give us a bit of a head start to get things running smoothly."

Clayton and four other candidates are running unopposed for five open seats on the School Board.

Clayton, Board Member Patricia Walsh, appointed to fill one of the vacancies left by Trisha Brown and Jim Smith, and Thomas Pellegrino, of Cedar Avenue, are on the ballot for three expired three-year terms.

Board Vice President John Winterstella, whose term ends this year, will not be running for reelection in November.

Board Members Mike Shelton and Thomas Bauer are running for two unexpired one-year terms, left vacant when Jim Smith and Muly resigned earlier this year.
