POLL: Should FEMA Withhold $523,000 In Sandy Aid From Belmar?

The Federal Emergency Management Agency should deny $523,000 in federal disaster aid to Belmar, since debris-removal contracts have been structured to benefit contractors more than taxpayers, according to a Department of Homeland Security memorandum.

Mayor Matt Doherty told The Asbury Park Press that he disputes the allegations, saying his town is “stuck in the middle” of a disagreement between two arms of the same federal agency after an audit recommended withholding $523,000 in disaster aid from the Shore town.

What do you think? Should FEMA give Belmar the money? Let us know in the poll or in the comments.
