Manchester Moves Distribution Center Beginning Monday

Center was housed in Manchester Township Elementary School

Manchester Moves Distribution Center Beginning Monday

Manchester's food, ice and water distribution center for those without power in Ocean County is moving out of Manchester Township Elementary School beginning on Monday.

The center, which had operated from the school since Thursday, will relocate to the Manchester First Aid and Rescue Squad headquarters on Colonial Drive between Routes 70 and 37, the township's Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Arthur Abline announced.

"We will be distributing water, ice and heater meals to residents of Ocean County that have no power and have been affected by Hurricane Sandy," Abline said in a statement. "If you know of someone who has no power, send them our way to obtain the commodities we are handing out."

The center will be open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until further notice. All township schools are open this week, necessitating the change in location for the distribution center.

As of Sunday night, 30 percent of JCP&L's Ocean County customers remain in the dark. In Manchester, power has been restored to all but 1,871 of the utility's 25,507 customers.
