Police have charged two Monmouth County residents with stealing a mini-van from Pennsylvania and attempting to sell it at a salvage yard in Manchester Township.

The arrests stemmed from a tip received from a salvage yard representative on March 12 about two people attempting to sell the vehicle for scrap, police said.

Kasahn Mason, 33, Neptune and Rachael Parker, 19, Belford, were both charged with receiving stolen property and fencing stolen property. Parker was taken to the Ocean County Jail in lieu of $7,500 bail, with no ten percent option, police said.

Mason's bail was also set at $7,500 with no ten percent options. He was taken to the Monmouth County Jail on unrelated offenses.

Police said the two contacted the salvage yard to scrap the 1998 Toyota Sienna mini-van.

"When the representative of the salvage yard met with the two individuals, he believed this transaction was not legitimate and decided not to proceed," according to a police department release.

The salvage yard representative notified police and Patrolman George Smith and Detective Adam Emmons responded. They determined that the vehicle was stolen from Pittson, Pennsylvania.

Emmons was able to identify the two suspects as Mason and Parker. He notified surrounding counties to be on the lookout for the couple. Neptune police arrested both Mason and Parker on unrelated charges a short time later and notified Emmons, police said.

Emmons determined that the two had stolen the vehicle from a Pennsylvania truck stop and driven it to the Briar Hill Apartments in Manchester. They tried to scrap the vehicle for cash and also pawned the GPS unit from the car, police said.

The Manchester Police Patrol Division, Ocean County Sheriff’s Criminalistics Investigation Unit, Neptune City Police Department and Pittston, Pennsylvania Police Department assisted.
