Two Hurt In Head-On Crash On Route 70

Manchester police said a 70-year-old woman who crossed the center line was hospitalized with a medical emergency.

Two people were taken to the hospital Friday afternoon in on head-on collision on Route 70 in Manchester, police said.

Lorraine Theodore, 70, of Whiting, was westbound on Route 70 in a 2005 Nissan Sentra when it crossed over the center line into oncoming traffic and hit a 2015 Toyota Tacoma driven by Brian C. Sullivan, 29, of Manahawkin, head on, said Capt. Todd Malland.

Sullivan was eastbound, Malland said.

The impact caused Theodore’s Nissan Sentra to leave the road and hit several small trees near mile marker 39, he said.

Theodore was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune by MONOC Medi-Vac helicopter for treatment for a medical emergency, Malland said. Sullivan was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River by Quality Medical Transport for complaint of neck and back pain, he said.

Also assisting at the scene were members of the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department. The crash is being investigated by Patrolman Michael Anderson of the Manchester Township Police Traffic Safety Section.
