Six homes and two businesses were broken into last week.

Maplewood Police Report Rash of Burglaries

As summer drew to a close last week, six homes and two businesses in Maplewood were burglarized, according to Maplewood Police.

Residents reported burglaries on Elmwood Avenue, Boyden Avenue, Tiffany Place, Highland Avenue, Orchard Road and Franklin Terrace. The police blotter can be viewed on the Maplewood Police Department website.

In the Tiffany Place incident, a witness reported seeing three teenagers leaving the house. The Franklin Terrace resident told police that a door was forced open. The Orchard Road resident reported that someone entered an unlocked side door and removed her purse after she went to answer her front door.

In the Elmwood Avenue, Boyden Avenue and Franklin Terrace incidents, residents told police that jewelry was taken. Copper pipes were reported stolen from the Highland Avenue home, which was vacant at the time.

Two Springfield Avenue businesses were broken into on Aug. 29, according to the police report. In one, police responding to an alarm arrested 50-year-old Kevin Goode, a Maplewood resident, after discovering him with the stolen goods. The owner of Vixon 6 reported that sometime in mid to late August, the contents of the store were stolen.

Maplewood Police Department has a crime prevention pamphlet titled "Prevent Burglaries: How to Protect Your Home," on its website.

Police also reported that two men, one with a handgun, attempted to rob a Chinese food delivery man on Tiffany Place. The men chased the deliveryman briefly before fleeing on foot towards Irvington.

Maplewood Patch has reached out to the police department and will update this story as more details become available.
