Shots Fired at South Orange Teens

Driver fired a handgun at the two following an altercation along the South Orange - Maplewood border.

Shots Fired at South Orange Teens

Two South Orange teenagers had shots fired at them late Thursday night on Irvington Avenue, following an altercation with a driver of a car in Maplewood near the South Orange border, according to Sgt. Christopher Black of the Maplewood Police Department. The teenagers were not injured; however, two houses in South Orange were struck and damaged.

The teenagers, ages 16 and 18, were crossing Irvington Avenue near the intersection of Seton Place in South Orange at shortly after 10 p.m. when the driver swerved at one of them, cursed at him and then pulled his car to the side of the road just over the Maplewood border, said Sgt. Black.

The driver exited his car and the two began arguing; the driver then returned to his car and fired four shots at the teenagers from a handgun. The driver drove east on Irvington Avenue.

The matter is being investigated by the Maplewood Detective Bureau, and police will release the name of the 18-year-old on Monday. Sgt. Black also said a witness described the driver as a black male driving a white car.

The two houses that were shot at have no visible signs of damage.
