Peter Bellone and his daughter Amanda Bellone of Marlboro performed CPR on a pregnant woman on Route 4 after they found her at the scene of an accident.

Marlboro First Responders Perform CPR During Fatal Accident in Rhode Island

Peter and Amanda Bellone of Morganville, both local registered first responders, found themselves at the scene of an accident on Route 4 in Rhode Island one night, and immediately began to help.

Their patient, 7-month pregnant Sullynette Sanchez, was severely injured in the accident. Her baby – a boy – was delivered at Kent Hospital and transferred to the intensive care unit at Women and Infants. According to Rhode Island media reports, he is stable.

Peter Bellone left two comments on a Patch site in about the accident, saying he and his daughter tried to help Sanchez before East Greenwich Rescue arrived.

"My daughter and I are EMT's and she is a URI RN," he wrote. "We attempted to save Sully when we stopped for the accident. We pulled her from the car and did CPR immediately. We are happy the baby is alive and pray he lives. We are sorry we could not save her but hope her child is OK."

East Greenwich Patch contacted Bellone last week. He said it was tough, maybe more for him than for his daughter.

"Amanda went to the wake Wednesday night. She is handling it well. I’m still a little PTSD’d out about it. We have done CPR plenty of times before but this was my youngest patient. She was my daughter’s age and she was pregnant," he said.

Marlboro-Colts Neck Patch asked residents to nominate first responders in our communities that go above and beyond the call of duty. Peter is an active member of the Morganville First Aid and Rescue Squad.

While she lived in New Jersey, Amanda was a member of the Marlboro First Aid Squad.

Gary Bellone, Peter's brother and Amanda's uncle, nominated his family members for going above and beyond both in Marlboro Township and anywhere they go.
