Volunteers from Matawan-Aberdeen's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) spent hours over the weekend helping with relief efforts after a bridge collapsed over New Jersey American Water Company pipes on Friday, causing them to break.

CERT Coordinator Herb Caravella said volunteers were called to assist with efforts in Middletown, where they helped to direct traffic and distribute cases of bottled water to Monmouth County residents affected by the water main break.

"We were there for 11 hours on Saturday, working in three to four hour shifts," Caravella said. "Then again on Sunday."
