Baby Killed in Route 206 Chester Crash

Expectant mother was one of two taken to the hospital after driver allegedly crossed double yellow line on road.

Baby Killed in Route 206 Chester Crash

An expectant mother lost her baby after she was struck while driving on Route 206 in Chester Township Tuesday afternoon, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said.

The baby was pronounced dead after the mother was transported to the hospital following the crash that also injured the driver of a second vehicle, Jason Mooney.

According to a release sent by the prosecutor's office Wednesday, Mooney, 40, of Flanders, was driving a 2012 Chevy Express van when he crashed into the 39-year-old Hackettstown mother's Lincoln Navigator around 4 p.m. after crossing the double yellow line close to the intersection of Route 206 and Cooper Lane.

Mooney had to be extricated from his car and flown to Morristown Medical Center by helicopter as the woman was transported to the hospital by the Chester First Aid Squad. Route 206 was closed for about two hours.

Chester Township police and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office are continuing their investigation of the crash. Anyone with information should contact Lt. Stephen Wilson of the Morris County Prosecutors Office at 973-285-6212 or Lt. Thomas Williver of the Chester Township Police Department at 908-879-5514 extension 835.
