Mendham Cub Scouts Blue & Gold Celebration

Mendham Cub Scouts Pack 133

With great fanfare, the Mendham Cub Scouts of Pack 133 held their annual Blue and Gold Banquet at the Willow School in Gladstone, NJ on Saturday February 25, 2017. Every year Cub Scouts across the United States recognize the Blue and Gold banquet as the highlight of the year in celebration of the birthday of Scouting. The Mendham Cub Scouts also honored four adults that had volunteered over the years, and the transition to a new Cubmaster

The Boy Scouts of America was founded in the United States on February 8, 1910. Pack 133’s celebration brings families together for an evening of fun and cheer. Led by parents, Andi Dickens, and Don and LaRue Wood, the Pack organized a global theme. The scouts traveled to Africa to make their own traditional clay masks. They traveled to Asia for an interactive Karate lesson. Finally, Mexico was the destination to create a Mexican God’s eye, a simple craft made of wood and colored wool.

The night had special significance in honoring four adult leaders that tirelessly contributed their time to Cub Scout events and activities over the years. The honorees included: Jack Kiefer, Cubmaster for 5 years, Karen Rossilli-Kiefer, Den Leader for 5 years, Armen Zaybekian, Pinewood Derby Chair for 9 years, and Lynn Rossi, Popcorn Kernel (fundraiser) for 2 years.

While the honorees were touring the Willow School, the cub scouts thoughtfully crafted posters adorned with their achievements, drawings, and words of “thank you” for their years of volunteer work. Upon their return, the scouts presented the posters along with loud cheers and grateful applause.

Jack Kiefer’s leadership contribution was specially noted with a gift of a memorial hiking stick engraved with his name, the Cubmaster designation and Pack logo. Mr. Kiefer officially handed off the role and welcomed Mr. Lawrence Morris as the Pack’s new Cubmaster. In a special ceremony reminiscent of Native American people, the Pack Committee welcomed Cubmaster Morris with the gifts of Responsibility, Knowledge, Hard Work, Enthusiasm, Gratification and Admiration.
