Port Monmouth Man, 23, Indicted on Armed Robbery, Burglary Charges

Carlos Ortiz faces serious charges related to a residential break-in and theft at a home on Bonafacio Court on June 13, 2013.

Port Monmouth Man, 23, Indicted on Armed Robbery, Burglary Charges
A Monmouth County Grand Jury decided today that Carlos Ortiz III, 23, of Montana Avenue in Port Monmouth should answer in court to first degree armed robbery and second degree burglary charges.

Ortiz is accused of breaking into a home on Bonafacio Court around 6:30 p.m. on June 14 with another man, threatening the occupants, and striking one with an imitation gun. The men allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of money and prescription medication and fled the home on foot.

A first degree crime carries the potential penalty of 10-20 years in prison; a second degree crime carries a potential penalty of 5-10 years in prison.

The jury's vote to indict is merely a formal charge; it is not a finding of guilt or a conviction. Every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt following a trial.
