The award winning Seraph Players of Mater Dei Prep, are pleased to announce their production of Peter and the Starcatcher, under the direction of Mrs. Cindy Dwyer and Mr. Gary Alan Powell.
The play tells the story of how Peter, beloved hero of J.M. Barrie’s novel, Peter and Wendy, became “Peter Pan” and why he never grew up.
Peter and the Starcatcher, based on the novel written by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, was adapted for the stage by Rick Elice. It premiered at the La Jolla Playhouse February 13. 2009, and has had two Off-Broadway runs (2011 and 2013) and a Broadway run from 2012 through 2013.

Peter and the Starcatcher has won numerous awards from the theater community, including: the Lucille Lortel Awards, the Drama Desk Awards, the Tina awards, Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards, an Obie Award and 5 Tony Awards. Most notably, the play won Best Set and Best Costume Design for its inspired use of recycled and repurposed materials, which added immensely to the imaginative and magical feel of the show.
This creative aspect of the show was one of the main reasons Mrs. Dwyer chose the play for the Seraph Players. “This story stretches the imagination in every way, right down to the creation of the sets and costumes. We plan to recreate much of the magic of the original, including the use of recycled and repurposed materials for the sets and costumes. The cast and their family and friends have pitched in to donate items to create a wonderful backdrop to this story,” said Dwyer. Items being used and donated include old silverware, cookware, bottle caps, corks, water bottles, toys, ropes and much more. “We’ve especially enjoyed using as many items from past shows as possible,” she said. “Some of our regular audience members might spy some familiar items on the stage.”
