Senior at Millburn High School, Sandra Stein was awarded the 2012 'Give a Boost' award for $1,000 by the Millburn-Short Hills Scholastic Booster to help pay for her higher education.
Boosters President John Ward present the award to Stein on May 31 during the MHS Academic Awards ceremony.
Stein is attending University of Miami in the fall to study art history. She has been active in sports during all four years of high school, playing Varsity Lacrosse and Field Hockey for three years, and Varsity Track for senior year (cross country/winter track/spring track).
She also participated in the School Ambassadors (senior/freshman mentoring) program. She is a volunteer in a nursing home and works at Splurge Bakery, coordinating children’s birthday parties at the bakery on weekends.
The award selection is made by The Boosters’ Board with the assistance of the MHS Guidance Department.
The Millburn-Short Hills Scholastic Boosters created the “Give a Boost” Award in 2009, to be given to a Millburn High School senior with an excellent academic record who has shown diverse academic, community and personal interests and accomplishments.
Individual Booster grants have ranged from $750 to $2,000 for the school year, depending on finacial needs.
The Millburn-Short Hills Scholastic Boosters, which has been providing educational grants to township students for 65 years, is now accepting applications for grants for the 2012-2013 college year. Since 1947, some 950 students, trying to close the shortfall in their college funding package, have received awards from The Boosters totaling more than $1,000,000.
