Literacy Volunteers of America, Essex & Passaic Counties, offers free instruction to volunteers interested in tutoring adults in basic literacy and English.
Your help is urgently needed here in Essex County, where one in every four residents lacks basic English literacy skills, according to federal data.
Knowledge of a foreign language and teaching experience are not necessary. The only requirements are a high school diploma, patience and a willingness to help others.
So join us for a series of training workshops at the Montclair Public Library, 50 S. Fullerton Ave., Montclair, from 2-5 pm Thursdays, Sep. 12, 19, 26, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 2013.
Training is free and leads to a certificate as a tutor of Basic Literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages. Tutors who complete our workshops will be matched with students on the final day of training. They volunteer two hours of their time each week, for a minimum of one year.
Space is limited and registration is required. Please contact LVA at 973-566-6200, ext. 217, or email@example.com to register for the upcoming six-session Montclair workshop.
We also offer workshops this fall in Bloomfield (Wednesday and Friday afternoons), South Orange (Saturday afternoons) and Wayne (Wednesday and Friday afternoons). We have many students waiting for your help. Please join our campaign to improve lives by increasing adult literacy.
