A bunch of great events are scheduled in Montclair this year to celebrate Independence Day.
The 64th annual Montclair Independence Day Parade will begin marching at 11 a.m. The King himself, Peter Guiffra, Montclair’s very own Elvis will be the parade grand marshal. Tons of groups are expected to march including BlueWave NJ.
The 1.6 mile parade route will travel “west on Bloomfield Avenue to Midland Avenue, continuing to Watchung Avenue, west to Valley Road and ending at Edgemont Park.”
The 4th of July Family Picnic will be held in Edgemont Park featuring two local bands, Black Lace Blues and Jason Didner and the Jungle Gym Jam. At the picnic there will be a magician, sand art, spin art and face painting! Applegate Farm will provide ice cream and there will be pony rides.
“The picnic is going to be bigger and better than ever before,” said Pat Brechka, Director of Recreation and Cultural Affairs. “There will also be a few surprises!”
Later that night, a fireworks display will be held at Yogi Berra Stadium. Stadium gates will open at 7 p.m. and fireworks are expected to begin around 9 p.m. when the sun sets.
Don’t forget that admissions are being charged this year; tickets will be $3 per person and $10 for a family of four and up. Children 5 and under are free.
In the event of rain, the parade will go on as scheduled. However the picnic in Edgemont Park and fireworks display at Yogi Berra Stadium will be cancelled if it rains.
