Montclair Garbage Truck Fire Sends Smoke Wafting Into Air (VIDEO)

MFD: The blaze damaged the controls of the truck, forcing firefighters to cut a hole in the rear door to get to the flames.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A garbage truck fire sent smoke wafting into the air on Gordonhurst Avenue in Montclair on Monday. The blaze damaged the controls of the truck, forcing local firefighters to cut a hole in the rear door to get to the flames and put them out, authorities said.

According to the Montclair Fire Department, it received a call about a garbage truck fire around 11:39 a.m. When a crew arrived on Gordonhurst Avenue, they found heavy smoke coming from the rear garbage collection area of the vehicle.

“The fire inside had damaged the controls, and the rear door couldn’t be opened,” an MFD spokesperson said. “Fire units had to cut a hole in the rear to gain access to the fire’s location, and extinguish it.”
