Former Montville BOE Member Receives Service Award

Former Montville BOE Member Receives Service Award

Paul Przetak was honored with the Montville Township Board of Education Service Award by the board Tuesday for his work as a member from 2008 through 2011.

Board President Dr. Karen Cortellino praised Przetak for committing himself to the position during the time that he served and said he did so with no reasons other than wanting to make the school district a better place.

"It's a very gratifying job to be a member of the board of education," she said. "You come to the job, to the position, hopefully with no personal agenda. Hopefully the only agenda you have is to ensure the highest quality education that a school district can deliver in a fiscally responsible manner."

Cortellino said the first question a board member needs to ask when considering an item that comes before them is "will this benefit the students of the district?" She said Przetak consistently adhered to the value of acting in the best interest of the students.

After Cortellino read a proclamation in Przetak's honor, he responded and thanked the board.

"Thank you very much for the recognition and my hats are off to the people who sit on this podium," he said.

Przetak said that while the public sees only the actions of the board members during public meetings, many hours are required in between meetings as well.

Board Member Matthew Kayne also praised Przetak for his "extreme intelligence" and "ability to cut to the core of an issue."
