Demolition of Moorestown Mall Theater Underway

The interior of the former United Artists theater, and adjacent Black Diamond skate park, have been gutted and the outer walls will be coming down soon.

Construction crews have gutted the inside of the former United Artists theater and at the Moorestown Mall.

Demolition of the 56,667-square foot space began shortly after , according to Lisa Wolstromer, senior marketing director for the mall.

Gaps in the outer walls of the theater reveal the interior has been almost completely demolished, and Wolstromer said the outer walls should come down within the next two to three weeks.

“Once all that is done, you’ll see the actual construction start to come together,” she said.

Wolstromer said mall operations will be able to continue unimpeded during the demolition/construction.

The target date for completion is Memorial Day 2013 (in time for early summer blockbusters), she said. The new theater will be a , with 3D capabilities, digital projection screens and stadium seating with reclining seats, among other amenities.

Meanwhile, the mall has ramped up its recruitment of new retail to fill many of its vacancies, including the recent additions of the , and . Wolstromer said heading into the fall they plan to open a Kids Foot Locker, Crazy 8 (Gymboree’s sister store) and Cotton On (a clothing retailer based in Australia).
