A 73-year-old Moorestown man was struck and killed as he stood on the shoulder of Interstate 84 in southeastern New York state Wednesday afternoon.
According to state troopers, Andy Ananthakrishnan had parked his vehicle off the shoulder of the highway—in Southeast, NY—and was standing on the grassy embankment away from his vehicle when a 2007 Nissan driven by Nicole Naishtut (of Connecticut) left the road and struck him around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Putnam County Coroner William Stahl reportedly pronounced Ananthakrishnan dead at the scene. An autopsy was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Officials are continuing their investigation into the fatal accident, which kept a portion of the interstate closed for hours Wednesday.
Naishtut was uninjured, according to authorities.
Police made no mention of any charges associated with the accident in their statement. The investigation is ongoing.
