Police: Driver Struck Moorestown Police Cruiser, Injuring Cop

A Moorestown Police officer, in pursuit of a speeding vehicle, was injured after another driver failed to yield and struck his cruiser Saturday morning.

The patrolman was heading east around 9:40 a.m. along the Outer Drive of Moorestown Mall, with emergency lights and siren on, attempting to stop the speeder, when a 2006 Subaru cut into the Outer Drive from a stop sign at the rear of Barnes & Noble, according to a police report.

The officer veered left, trying to avoid a collision, struck the Subaru, and traveled over a traffic island before coming to a stop.

Both the officer and the driver of the Subaru, an unidentified 23-year-old Burlington resident, were taken to the hospital for minor injuries, treated and released, police said. There were no passengers in either vehicle. The Subaru sustained moderate damage, while the patrol car sustained extensive front-end damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

The crash was investigated by the Moorestown Police Department Traffic Safety Division. The driver of the Subaru was charged with failing to yield after stopping and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.
