Cops: Man Peered into 14-Year-Old's Shower

Police have arrested a man they say peered into showers at Lifetime Fitness in Florham Park to watch a 14-year-old boy.

Joseph Gallardi, 63, of New Providence, is charged with one count of fourth-degree invasion of privacy.

Florham Park Sgt. Christopher Core said in an affidavit on file with the Morris County court that a witness first came to police Sept. 12, to say Gallardi had followed a child into the shower and peered at him.

Police interviewed the child, a 14-year-old, and the child said that on Sept. 9, Gallardi followed him into the shower and took the stall next to his, according to the affidavit.

"[The child] indicated he was in the shower for a very short period of time, turned around, and saw the defendant starting at him through a crack between the shower door and the wall," the affidavit states.

The affidavit also cites the child saying he and Gallardi made eye contact, and he recognized Gallardi before Gallardi returned to his own stall.

As a condition of bail, Gallardi is not to be allowed unsupervised contact with any juvenile under 16 except for his own children.

(Note: An earlier version of this post incorrectly stated Lifetime Fitness is in East Hanover).
