Pre-Midnight Last Call Comes With Iron Bistro Approval

Council approves liquor license extension, but cuts down serving hours, report says.

Pre-Midnight Last Call Comes With Iron Bistro Approval

Iron Bar owner Jimmy Cavanaugh finally got his wish, for his South Street establishment to extend its liquor license next door for the creation of Iron Bistro.

But it comes with a major stipulation.

According to morristowngreen.com, the council approved the extension, but with an 11:30 p.m. last call for alcohol on Fridays and Saturdays, with an 11 p.m. last call on all other nights.

The Iron Bistro is proposed to fill two vacant storefronts, the report said. Whether the owners go forward with the development remains to be seen.

Morristown Council approved a 2 a.m. last call for the recently redesigned and renovated Office Tavern Grill, and Cavanaugh’s attorney, Robert Williams, said the Iron Bistro deserved the same accommodation, the report said.

The downtown bar scene in Morristown has become a topic of contention recently, as the police reports for late night, alcohol-fueled fights, mischief and public urination continues to grow.

Two of the town’s more popular haunts, the Dark Horse Lounge and Sona Thirteen, recently had their liquor licenses not renewed by the council because of ABC violations. The two establishments will go before the governing body in August to try and have the renewals approved.
