Drug Bust At Newark Hotspot: Hundreds of Vials Of Crack, Heroin Envelopes Recovered

Essex County police recovered 364 vials of crack-cocaine and 526 decks of heroin during a bust last week at a reputed drug hotspot.

Newark, NJ - Essex County Sheriff's Office detectives recovered hundreds of crack-cocaine and heroin units from a reputed Newark drug hotspot during a narcotics bust last week.

According to the Essex County Sheriff’s Office, acting “in response to numerous neighborhood complaints on drug trafficking in the area,” detectives from the Bureau of Narcotics staged a plainclothes surveillance operation at the intersection of North 11th Street and 4th Avenue on April 25.

Authorities allege that at 5:15 p.m., the driver of a 2016 Ford Fusion, later identified as Timothy Moran, 52, of Belleville, arrived at the scene and double parked in front of 237 North 11th Street. Once parked, Moran allegedly engaged in a brief conversation with Antwon Parker, 25, of Newark, who then reportedly walked over to a car parked in the driveway, removed items from a white plastic bag and exchanged these items with Moran for cash.

Detectives followed Moran from the scene and pulled him over, finding five vials of crack-cocaine and 10 heroin-filled glassine envelopes stamped “JUNGLE BOOK” in red ink.

Detectives then moved to detain Parker, who allegedly ran from officers but was captured soon afterwards, police stated.

The plastic bag from the car in the driveway contained an additional 364 vials of crack-cocaine and 526 similarly marked decks of heroin, police said.

A .38 caliber Brazilian-made revolver was also discovered on the floor of an adjacent garage and seized, police added.

Authorities charged Parker with two counts each of the sale of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS, possession of CDS with intent to distribute and possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of the Essex County Vocational School. He was also found to be the subject of open warrants issued by the Newark and Union Township municipal courts.

Moran was charged with two counts of possession of CDS and issued a summons for have narcotics in a motor vehicle.
