Fire In Newark Injures 1, Temporarily Closes Broad Street: PD

A victim is in critical condition and some streets were temporarily closed after a fire took place in Newark, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A victim is in critical condition and some streets were temporarily closed after a fire broke out at a building on Broad Street in Newark, authorities said.

Firefighters arrived at 520 Broad Street around 2:30 p.m. after receiving a call about a fire on the 4th and 6th floors of the structure, the Newark Department of Public Safety stated.

Emergency responders transported an injured victim to Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. The victim is reportedly in critical condition, authorities said.

“Northbound traffic on Broad Street will be closed from Bridge Street to Lombardy Street,” Newark authorities stated at 3:25 p.m. “No southbound traffic is being affected at this time.”

Traffic was reopened shortly afterwards, authorities said.

Earlier in the day, a fire at Newark Airport torched at least a dozen cars and temporarily shut down a parking garage in Terminal C. Nobody was injured, reports said.
