Newark Resident’s Public Radio Station Will Focus On Minorities, Women
If "public radio for all" sounds like something that Newark needs, then you have the ability to make it happen.

NEWARK, NJ — If “public radio for all” sounds like something that Newark needs, then you have the ability to make it happen.
Newark resident Brittany McCombs recently launched an online fundraiser for Public Radio For All (PRFA), a web-based public radio station that will focus on “music, culture news and issues that matter to minority communities.”
“From politics and race, to sex and feminism, it is our mission to feature voices that are commonly underrepresented in media: women, people of color and the LGBTQ community,” McCombs said.

Located in downtown Newark at the Gateway Project Spaces, PRFA has already begun to make a difference in the local community, teaming up with the Newark chapter of After School All Stars (ASAS), a privately funded national nonprofit organization, to teach several of their students in New York and New Jersey the art and technical skills of radio production.
PRFA will give the students tools and direction to produce and report on their lives and communities with a show called “Newark Diaries,” McCombs said.

A 40-day IndieGogo fundraising campaign for PRFA aims to raise $4,000 dollars to help the online radio platform accomplish two goals:
- Pay for its studio space for six months to a year while it explores grants and for-profit funding
- Pay for the recorders and other necessary tools the students will need to produce their shows
PRFA’s Indiegogo campaign runs through Monday, Jan. 30. Find out more and see the campaign here.
