Camden Street open for a variety of events

Students Honoring Dr. King with National Day of Service

Camden Street School will hold its National Day of Service observance Monday, Dr. Martin Luther King Day, to honor the legacy of the slain civil rights leader.

Events will be held from 10 am to 1 pm at the school, including events sponsored by the Newark Fire Department and the North Jersey chapter of the American Red Cross. The groups will host events underscoring the importance of fire and gun safety.

The American Red Cross/North Jersey, Essex County Chapter will provide breakfast, a canvassing coordinator, an Emergency Response Vehicle, Emergency Disaster Preparedness information, a smokehouse demonstration, Junior Red Cross Volunteer information and safety kits for homes that do not have functional smoke detectors.

A fire truck from Newark Fire Department Engine Company 6 will be positioned outside the school under the direction of Capt.  Gary Holmes.  The Newark Fire Department will provide fireman gear, equipment, smoke detectors, four learning an
