Highland Park High School Orchestra Brings Holiday Music to Seniors at Lantern Hill

NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J., December 7, 2016 - The nationally-recognized Highland Park High School Orchestra will perform a selection of classical and holiday music for residents of Lantern Hill Senior Center on Friday, December 16. The orchestra, led by Director Hsin-Ting Feng, celebrated its 12th anniversary this year.

“The student orchestra has a deep love of music. Focusing on community outreach gives us a way to share that love with others who may not have opportunities to experience classical music, especially during the holidays,” said Feng.

The orchestra’s community outreach efforts have included a concert hosted by the Highland Park Mayor, Gayle Brill Mittler, a performance for the Ronald McDonald House, a concert at the Scotch Plains Evergreen Elementary School, ECLC of NJ and Summit Speech School.

In 2012, the Philharmonic won Gold at the World Strides Heritage competition. This win allowed them to participate in the Festival of Gold and a performance at Carnegie Hall in 2014. The group also competed and performed at the National Orchestra Cup held at Lincoln Center in 2015. The Philharmonic won 1st place Superior and received highest overall score at the Music in the Parks competition last year.
