'Large Fire' Breaks Out At Somers Point Storage Facility: Police
Pictures showed extensive damage to one of the storage structures.
SOMERS POINT, NJ — A "large fire" broke out Thursday at a storage facility, said Somers Point Police Chief Robert Somers. Officials reopened the Garden State Parkway south entrance, Somers Point police announced at about noon.
Officials closed the Exit 29 northbound ramp off the Garden State Parkway as firefighters battled the blaze.
The fire broke out at Sure Storage on Chestnut Street. Pictures show extensive damage to one of the storage structures. No injuries have been reported.

"I feel very badly for the ownership," said Michael Rafferty, a witness. "They're really nice, good people and they do a great job and run a beautiful facility. "
Even as the owners dealt with the aftermath of the fire, they showed kindness. One of them saw a Band-Aid coming off Rafferty's knuckle, so she went and got him another one, Rafferty said.

Part of New Road from the Somers Point-Mays Landing Road intersection past the storage facility is blocked off to traffic. Somers Point police posted the following traffic advisory:
As of noon, Laurel Drive from Dogwood Drive to New Road is still closed in both directions because of construction, police said.
