Massive Fire In Wildwood Crest At Jersey Shore, Can Be Seen For Miles (Videos)

Smoke from a massive fire was filling the sky at a Jersey Shore beach on Sunday afternoon (see videos below).

Three houses at Primrose Road and Park Boulevard in Wildwood Crest were on fire, according to eyewitnesses. Some worried that the fire may have spread to a third house after an apparent gas-grill explosion.

The smoke was filling the sky around the boardwalk, too, causing many onlookers to stop and look.

At 3:18 p.m., Wildwood Crest Police received several 911 calls reporting heavy black smoke on the 7100 block of Park Boulevard, Lt. Edward Gorski, a department spokesman, told nj.com. Upon arrival, they found houses at 7102 and 7104 Park Blvd. engulfed in flames and smoke.

A third house, at 7116 Park Blvd., sustained extensive exterior damage, according to the report. One occupant of the burning houses managed to flee.

Some eyewitnesses could see the smoke as far north as Atlantic County. The fire was reportedly raging near Rita's Bakery in Wildwood Crest.

Wildwood Crest Fire Chief Ron Harwood told The Press of Atlantic City that he did not believe anyone was injured in the fire, although he declined to comment further, pending an investigation.

Fire crews were on the scene of the burning homes on the 7100 block of Park Boulevard for at least four hours. The fire started in one house and spread to a building on the north side.

The back of the waterfront home was burned and the adjacent homes were damaged, while a deck in the rear of the home collapsed, according to the report.
