The suspect who was apprehended following a domestic violence incident involving a handgun Tuesday morning has been identified.
Robert L. Jones, 55, was involved in a domestic dispute with his girlfriend in their apartment on the 200 West block of Bay Avenue. During the dispute, Jones allegedly threatened his girlfriend with a handgun, Cape May
Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and
Ocean City Police Chief Chad Callahan announced late Tuesday afternoon.
His girlfriend managed to escape the situation and call 9-1-1. At about 8:21 a.m., Ocean City Police Officers set up a perimeter around the apartment.
Cape May County Regional SWAT Team, the County Hostage Negotiation Team, and
the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office
responded to the scene to assist.
At about 9:40 a.m., members of the Ocean City Police Department and the County SWAT Team apprehended Jones without incident.
Jones was transported to the Ocean City Police Department. Criminal charges are pending.
Detectives from the Prosecutor's Office and officers from the Ocean City Police Department then exercised a search warrant on Jones' apartment. They seized three handguns and seven rifles and shotguns.
