Temperatures might be in the single digits at night, but the Point Pleasant Borough Council is preparing for warmer times to come.

The Borough Council authorized several spring and summer events at the Feb. 17 meeting. They include Summerfest, which is scheduled to take place on June 7, the Point Pleasant Jazz and Blues Festival, slated for June 20; fun runs for the Nellie F. Bennett and Ocean Road schools, an Earth Day celebration on April 25, and three separate events at Idle Hour.

Members of the Chamber of Commerce appeared before the council to discuss potential plans to extend the Jazz and Blues Festival to include an adults-only Friday night event, which would be “low-key,” and include jazz and oldies music as well as a beer and wine garden.

The council also temporarily extended Idle Hour’s liquor license to include the back parking lot for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration on March 15, the Bay Head/Mantoloking PBA Fundraiser on April 21, and an event for the Barbara Forfar Nursing Scholarship on May 31. All events are scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Due to issues in previous years with litter and debris on neighboring lawns, the extensions were approved on the terms that Idle Hour must purchase a $500 escrow account for each event that will be refunded after proper cleanup.
