Point Beach Group Aids Sandy-Ravaged Shore With Brielle Fishing Tournament
Their work continues as the organization works with the family and foundation of local ex-lifeguard, Brett T. Bailey, in promoting its 13th annual fishing tournament June 13 and 14 in Brielle.
Bailey was killed in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. A foundation has been created in his name.
Ryan Kurek, co-founder of SURF and raised in Point Pleasant Beach said Bailey "was a best buddy since childhood. His brother and sister, mom are like family."
"We've teamed up to honor him, and they are honoring (SURF) because they said it's something Brett would be behind 100 percent.
"Last year they donated $25,000 to us for Sandy victims. We've teamed up again. The event is called the BTB Mako Rodeo at Www.btbmakorodeo.com," Kurek said.
"It's one of the best fishing tournaments because it brings families from the shore that lost loved ones in the terrorist attacks, and victims of Hurricane Sandy together for a full day of events," Kurek said.
