Richard E. Sudowsky, Former New Jersey State Police Detective, Dies At 76

Services for Eucharistic minister at St. Mark's Church will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Richard E. Sudowsky, 76, of Sea Girt, NJ died Saturday, April 30, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Edison, NJ Richard lived in Plainsboro before moving to Sea Girt 38 years ago. Richard was a parishioner of St. Mark's Church, Sea Girt where he was an active member of the Holy Name Society, a Eucharistic Minister, server, and a reader. He truly lived his life as a Christian man.

He was a dedicated member of the Sea Girt Fire Company for 37 years where he was thrilled to be honored as "Fireman of the Year" two times. Richard enjoyed his career as a Detective Sergeant 1st Class with the NJ State Police for 26 years and later pursued his second career as head of security for Bristol Myers Squibb, New Brunswick, NJ.

Richard dedicated himself fully to every commitment, including the time he served in the US Army. He loved every minute of living in Sea Girt and actively looked for ways to participate in the Sea Girt community. Among all his other accomplishments he will always be remembered as an amazing husband, father, and grandfather and he will be deeply missed.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, "the Lovely" Annette Sudowsky; two children: Vicki Brown and her husband Mark of Sea Girt, Richard Sudowsky of Long Branch; five grandchildren: Matthew, Brian, Sarah, Emily, Kaitlyn; two sisters: Pat O'Connor, and Barbara Simonetti and her husband Tony all of Monroe, NJ and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday,at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35 at New Bedford Road., Wall. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, at St. Mark's Church, 215 Crescent Parkway, Sea Girt. Burial will follow in St. Catharine Cemetery, Wall. Donations may be made in his name to Sea Girt Fire Company, 319 Baltimore Blvd. Sea Girt, NJ 08750 or St. Mark's Church, Sea Girt.
