The American Conference on Diversity is honored to receive a grant of $20,000 from longtime supporter The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey to present two signature healthcare professional-development programs aimed at helping physicians, healthcare professionals, and health-system administrators close the disparities gap among the state’s increasingly diverse patient population.
“The support and commitment of The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey to bridge the health disparities gap over the years has allowed the American Conference on Diversity to work with hundreds of New Jersey’s healthcare professionals and provide quality trainings to enhance the cultural competency and respect the humanity of people of different races, cultures, and religions,” says Elizabeth Williams-Riley, President and CEO of the American Conference on Diversity.
New Jersey residents speak more than 130 different languages, with more than 26 percent speaking primarily a language other than English. The complexity of languages, cultures, faiths, and healthcare practices can be overwhelming to healthcare professionals and the settings in which they practice, which is why the American Conference on Diversity healthcare-training programs are so important. To date, the American Conference on Diversity has worked with more than 80 percent of acute healthcare facilities throughout New Jersey to fulfill this mission.
“We are delighted to support the American Conference on Diversity,” said Jonathan R. Pearson, Executive Director of The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey. “The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey is dedicated to supporting charitable organizations making an impact in the lives of people across New Jersey.”
The American Conference on Diversity healthcare-training programs include:
►Health Equity Conference: Improving the Quality and Safety of Care for Diverse Patient Populations, which explores the relationship between health literacy and health equity and what health professionals can do to foster more health-literate organizations. This full-day cultural-competency training features nationally recognized speakers and presenters on current critical issues, such as effective communications, faith-based end of life practices, and more.
►Healthcare Cultural Competency Train the Trainer is another full-day skills-building program designed for healthcare professionals with the responsibility for staff education that provides critical tools and information needed to building culturally respectful and competent healthcare environments. Train the Trainer is a continuing nursing education activity approved for 6.25 contact hours by the New Jersey State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Centers COA.
In addition to conducting the programs outlined above, the American Conference on Diversity will offer webinars spotlighting key insights and information shared during the 2013 Health Equity Conference. Please visit www.AmericanConferenceonDiversity.orgfor future dates and times for the webinars.
