Mayors Wellness Campaign Plans Community Walk

The first public initiative will be held Oct. 20.

Mayors Wellness Campaign Plans Community Walk

Red Bank's Mayors Wellness Committee is hosting a Community Kick Start Walk on Saturday, Oct. 20, the borough recently announced.

Councilman Michael DuPont, who has spearheaded the effort and serves as the Wellness Committee's liaison to the council, indicated his intention to have the public get involved in the campaign, which promotes healthy living.

According to a release from the borough, the walk begins at 11 a.m. in Marine Park. The course is a one-mile loop that will take participants to Riverside Gardens Park and back. The Committee will also offer educational items, healthy snacks and refreshments. The first 100 walkers also get t-shirts.

“Hopscotch,” from the Pawsitive Action Team at K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital, will also be on hand, the release states.

Earlier this year the Committee unveiled its mission statement: "Creating a Healthier Community - Today, Tomorrow, Together." The Committee is comprised of borough officials, residents, and representatives from the business community.

This is the first public endeavor for the Committee. Previously, an Employee Health Fair was coordinated for Red Bank workers. For more information on the Community Kick Start Walk or on the Mayor’s Wellness Committee, please contact Doreen Hoffman at 732-530-2748.

From the borough:

The mission of the New Jersey Mayors’ Wellness Campaign is to equip mayors and other key leaders with the tools to develop and implement active-living initiatives in their communities with the ultimate goal of improving health and reducing the skyrocketing health care costs that come with the obesity problem in New Jersey.
