The 7 Deadly Sins of Style Sin #4: Mismatching Colors

Since 1974, Sal Lauretta for Men has been creating custom-fitted men's clothing in the classic European tradition.

Understanding the color wheel is important to fashion. Generally, fashion should be put together symmetrically within the color wheel.

Complimentary Colors- These colors are directly across the wheel from each other. Red and green go together, orange and blue, yellow and purple, and so on.

Triad Colors- These are three colors that are equidistant from each other to create a Y-shape. Red, blue, yellow and green, orange, purple are examples of a triad. This is a balanced approach to color matching and looks intellectual in neutral and lighter shades.

Analogous Colors – These colors border each other on the wheel. Red, red-orange, and orange are analogous colors. These are used to coordinate an outfit with combinations or lighter and darker shades.

Neutral Colors – These are not on the wheel. Neutral colors range anywhere from black to white and all the shades of grey in-between.
