PHOTOS: Storm Leaves Path Of Destruction In Its Wake

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — About 18,000 people were without power Tuesday due to a severe thunderstorm that blanketed North Jersey with heavy rain and wind.

There were reports of downed trees and power lines throughout Bergen County Tuesday night.

PSE&G reported that more than 16,900 customers were without power. The towns with the most outages are:

  • Wallington: 4,176
  • Rutherford: 2,111
  • Ridgewood: 1,583
  • Waldwick: 1,780
  • Ho-Ho-Kus: 1,211
  • East Rutherford: 1,151

Another 1,115 Bergen County Orange & Rockland customers were without power, including more than 200 in Mahwah, the utility reported.

Route 46 East is closed in Clifton before Van Houten Avenue due to a transformer fire at Schumacher Chevrolet and downed poles and wires.

The storm left destruction in its wake throughout North Jersey:

  • There was a house fire in Maywood, Daily Voice reported.
  • Oradell Avenue in Paramus was closed in both directions after a tree fell.
  • A tree fell in front of Immaculate Heart Academy in Washington Township. Trees also reportedly fell onto houses on Summit and Mountain avenues, according to Daily Voice. A tree also fell across the NJ Transit tracks in Westwood.
