Rumson Boat Fire: 10 People Jump Off Burning Boat Sunday Afternoon
People actually had to jump into the Shrewsbury River when the 19-foot Sea Doo Speedster caught fire at 3 p.m. near the Rumson Country Club.

RUMSON, NJ — Ten people had to be rescued Sunday afternoon when their small pleasure craft caught on fire in the Shrewsbury River. The boaters actually had to jump into the water when the 19-foot Sea Doo Speedster 200 caught fire at about 2:50 p.m. Sunday, according to New Jersey State Police.
All 10 were pulled from the water and rescued by another passing motorboat. Nine people had to be treated for smoke inhalation at Navesink Cove Marina. What started the blaze is still unknown.

The fire broke out on board when the boat was near the Rumson Country Club. Rumson, Sea Bright, Highlands, Atlantic Highlands and Brevent Park fire companies all responded, as did Rumson, Sea Bright and Atlantic Highlands first aid squads.
