Many people in the Two-River area look forward to the Visiting Nurse Association Show House Event each year. Not only are the houses fabulous, but the event also offers an opportunity for great food and shopping.

This year, in Rumson will host the Stately Homes By-the-Sea Café.

“Our executive chef Bob Belt has prepared a unique menu using the freshest ingredients available that complements the grand Holly Hill country estate,” said Steve Bidgood, the regional partner for Salt Creek Grille, Rumson and Princeton.

The was built in 1934 and wasoriginally owned by New Jersey State Senator and Superior Court Judge Thomas Brown. The 12-acre property includes dozens of specimen holly trees, from which the estate derived its name, cultivated by Judge Brown.

“I feel a certain kinship with Judge Brown. He was well known to be a dedicated supporter of his community to the extent of hiring all local contractors to build Holly Hill during difficult economic times,” explained Bidgood. “Salt Creek Grille hires locally and we have done business with local purveyors since we opened our doors on our beautiful waterfront location in 1998. We are proud to have been selected to operate the Café at this year’s Designer Show House event.”

The cafe will offer Continental breakfast treats, lunch and refreshments under an elegant tent on the grounds of the show house in Middletown from May 3 to June 12, 2011. The café will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“Our private dining room managers are looking forward to serving visitors at the Designer Show House in an el fresco atmosphere,” said Bidgood.

Some of the menu items available at Salt Creek Grille Café will be muffins, bagels, fruit salad, juice, coffee and tea for Continental breakfast, and a Quiche du Jour, Sandwiches, Paninis, a Chef’s Entrée and several salad selections including the beloved Salt Creek Grille signature salad with Granny Smith apples, gorgonzola, walnuts and balsamic vinaigrette served atop young fresh lettuce for lunch.
